| Message: | I have been having the same problem as you guys for the last 9 months SLK 230 Kompressor. the location of the sensor is about 18" down from the top at the back of the engine push on plug, caution make sure the ignition is switched off before attemting to swap. I don't think it is the crankshaft sensor as I have just fit my second new sensor and still got the same problem!! The sensor is made up of two things a magnetic steel core and arrond this there is a coil of wire. when the magnet stud on the fly wheel passes over the sensor it induces a small ac voltage into the sensor. this signal is then transmited to the ECU managemnt system and it tells the ignition system when No.1 cyliner is at top dead centre. if you have a ohm meter and the reading is arrond 1000 ohms or 1 Kohm it there is nothing wrong with the sensor. I think it is a bad connection because when mine will not start I have unplugged the sensor and plugged it back on again and it has started. If anyone has found for certain what the problem is please email me regards Mike | ||||
