Have just removed the whole assembly and dismantled on my 1990 R129, assuming no vast differences I removed the two clear lights to reveal the two screws you mention and pulled the mirror free of its sprung loaded breakaway mounting, this reveals three more screws which holds the mirror mounting and assembly. Pull slightly forward and unplug the various wires to lights, interior temp unit , warning buzzer etc. Switches unclip back through the housing and can be dismantled (avoid dropping the small ball bearings!) and contacts cleaned as I did. Hope this helps...
